A Distance Too Grand (Book Review)

By Benjamin H. Liles

This is a wonderful book by Regina Scott about the beginnings of America's historic and famous landmarks being documented. While it is true she does so in a fictional story, she captures the essence of time and the awesome beauty that she takes us to in these pages. I recommend the book to be read on the basis of the fact it's a great story, well written characters, the dialogue she has written, and for the reason there's a love story attached as well.

There's also more that can be said for Scott's book as well: the two characters of the book have their own stories respectively. Meg Pero is continuing on in the way her father taught her to take photographs. She's been taught by simply the best to harness a talent to also be a surveyor in the process. At the end of it all will she find a joy that she once knew in a man she thought she left behind? Captain Ben Coleridge is stationed not far from the Grand Canyon, hoping to find some clue as to what happened to his father, Colonel Coleridge. In the process he needs to find a way to heal from past wounds dealt by Meg Pero. Can they find out what happened to Colonel Coleridge? Not only that, but can their love be reignited as they navigate the perils of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon?

While I always say that I received this book from Revell for a fair and honest review, I also want to note here that this is truly a wonderful story. Stories like this cannot be rushed, for if they are then the story is lopsided, doesn't work well, and ends up a disaster for the author. On that end of things, Scott has done an amazing job in her storytelling, as well as with the sub plots she also has weaved together. I can't say more to reveal the overall story, but it is worth the read.
