Gods Great Grace
Okay, guys! For all of you who have been faithful in reading the gospel of Jesus Christ through this website as God has enabled me to do so you will be able to buy this book in three days time! Let the countdown begin.
Life is Hard, Grace Makes it Better (Book Review)
By Benjamin H. Liles
Melba Patillo Beals's book I will Not Fear should be regarded as an instant hit in the faith department. Even though she describes her early days of high school experience at Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas as tough, and a hard time to go through due to death threats and all she has overcome a great deal. She gives us an account of how her grandmother equipped her enough to deal with life's issues as a woman of faith. For me, I think Melba comes across as a bit of a Deborah type of woman.
The God who Sustains
By Benjamin H. Liles
"You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst" (Nehemiah 9:20, New King James). We see that by this that God, once He sets those free from slavery and bondage, sustains those He loves by His right hand. It is why a bit later we read, "Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' Then Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world'" (John 6:31-33, New King James).
New Design
By Benjamin H. Liles
As many as you who come and read this blog/website you have by now noticed the new design. I have to credit Liles Publishing for the design work, especially Tanya Liles who helps with all the ideas. I hope it is better on the eyes as you read and doesn't look as old and tiring as the last design looked. i would do some design myself, but my wife, Tanya, has a better eye for things of that nature. My job, it seems, is to keep you guys informed of what God puts on my heart to share with you. And hopefully, some day soon, a better ministry name will take shape. Until then, it is my hope and prayer that each and every one of you enjoys this new look! Blessings and joy to you all in Jesus Christ's name!
The God that Pursues
By Benjamin H. Liles
"And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry" (Luke 15:20-24, New King James).
Phoebe's Light (Book Review)
By Benjamin H. Liles
Suzanne Woods Fisher has done it again with her latest book on America's early Quaker establishment! She has written absolute gold with her latest book Phoebe's Light. As I read it today it sounded a lot like a reversal of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice to me. I absolutely couldn't put the book down for a moment. The biggest parts of the book were shaped on a few people who were real, such as Mary Coffin, Nathaniel Starbuck, Peter Foulger.
Where Your Affections Lie
By Benjamin H. Liles
"Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear...For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also'" (Luke 12:22-34, Berean Study).
Sincere Love
By Benjamin H. Liles
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves" (Romans 12:9-10). But I also wonder what would that look like? If we honor one another above ourselves, doesn't that mean I have to put off being selfish, and to be more--selfless?
God on Suffering
By Benjamin H. Liles
"And Jesus said to them, 'While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast" (Mark 2:19, New American Standard). Jesus gives this answer to those who asked him why his disciples never fasted like John's disciples did or even those who followed the Pharisees. Why is it while we have God do we not mourn? Rather, I think the question becomes, "Where is God when we suffer?"
The Importance of Abiding in God (Ezekiel 15)
By Benjamin H. Liles
"Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 'Son of man, how is the wood of the vine better than any other wood, the vine branch which is among the trees of the forest? Indeed, when it was whole, no object could be made from it. How much less will it be useful for any work when the fire has devoured it, and it is burned?'" (Ezekiel 15:1-2, 5, New King James).
Being a Spiritual Leader
By Benjamin H. Liles
"But Jesus called them to Himself and said, 'You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave--just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.'" ~ Matthew 20:25-28, New King James
Why Worry?
By Benjamin H. Liles
We all experience and have anxiety. Some people get anxious at the slightest hint or provocation. Other people seem to get anxious when things get tough. Stress is a funny thing. We often do those little things when we feel stressed. Jesus told His disciples, "Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid" (John 14:27). God told Moses and Joshua as well a few others simply "Do not be afraid" (Deuteronomy 31.6; Joshua 1:9; Isaiah 35:4; Psalm 34:4).
The Marks of The Holy Spirit
By Benjamin H. Liles
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. ~ Galatians 5:22-23, Holman Christian Standard
